dwarf kitty II by hoschie dwarf kitty II by hoschie
Pueppi is a little mutant because she is a little dwarf. Her sister is normal and way bigger than her. Its a strange situation because on the one hand it is cute to see and on the other its sad for the cat because she will never have a normal cat-live. She can not jump with her short legs and no one knows how she will develop. But she has a strong will and everyone cares for her so she will get the best treatment for her handicap :aww:

An other picture of pueppi.

Her sister Mercedes:

I would say she could have Munchkin in her bloodline. They're born with a genetic mutation that makes their legs short as well as Napoleon cats, and not all the kittens in the litter are born with short legs which could explain why her sister is long legged.

But very cute, she will definitely make someone happy! :)

The few cat oddities I have come across (short leg mutant cats and three legged amputated cats and cripple paw cats) seem more often than not to fail to understand just how at a disadvantage they are. Running, jumping, climbing trees and causing all kinds of havoc, kicking kitty-cat butt. Humans should take a lesson from them.

She could likely be sold to a dwarf cat breeder, to keep the gene pool diverse, couldn't she? What an adorable little thing.

I hope she'll grow some--or at least find a good, loving home that'll adore her and appreciate her for her uniqueness. Even tiny, if she's strong and healthy, she might have a happy kitty-life with the right folks.

She looks cute, but it's a pretty major deformity. Are her legs also crooked? In this shot it looks like her toes are sticking out sideways a bit. It seems like she might also be prone to urinary infections due to trouble using a litterbox, but I couldn't say for sure. I would guess that she's viable if she's lived this long, but she may be so handicapped as to require special care for her entire life, which might limit her adoption chances. I sincerely hope you manage to find a good home for her. :ohnoes:

I agree its a strange situation: On the one hand she really looks cute (especially when she runs and plays) but it is really bad. She needed her little legs bandaged because of the deformity... The woman who raises the kittens thinks about keeping her because of Pueppis special needings.
It is hard to find a good home for her with provides the adequate care. Not to forget that noone knows how she will develop. Maybe she will need surgery treatments in the future because of her legs and all the other handicaps and even with best care she might die earlier than other cats...
Nevertheless she will have the best life she can have and thats why I really like the cat-aid organisation :aww:

No, it is an growing error. Her Sister Mercedes is a normal sized kitty. I doesn't support Bastardised = the pervert breeding resulting in the development of extreme characteristics detrimental to the health and welfare of the animals ( MUNCHKIN made with incest)

I see. I never knew that, I thought it was just a mutation they bred a breed out of.

It WAS a natural mutation they created a breed out of. And these 'extreme' characteristics (which again are natural) are NOT detrimental to the health of the animal.

The Munckin gene is a NATURALLY occurring mutation, it does not affect all members of a litter so her sister having standard legs does not prove she is not a munchkin, and the breed does NOT have an abundance of health problems. They do not suffer any leg or spine maladies due to their short legs, and there are no breed specific health risks. They were also not created through inbreeding and cats with the Munckin characteristic date back to the 1800's

In Germany its judicial forbidden to breed Munchkin Cats because of their proven problems. Pueppi for example had her legs get bandaged for a long time to be able to move. You can close your eyes about facts but a cat which is unable to jump and may suffers for a painful arthrosis is not a happy cat because it is unable to fulfill its natural needings. Cats like this occur like vertically challenged children occur. But do we really have to breed this because WE HUMANS think its a perverted kind of "cuteness"? How many short legged cats do you see in nature? That is a benchmark you should use of how successful a mutation is...

I am sorry for the pain that kitten has suffered, I don't doubt that your specific cat has problems but those problems are not universal for the breed, they are specific to her. Munchkin breeding is illegal in a few countries because they are investigating problems with the breed, but in other countries breeding groups and veterinarians have already agreed that there are no specific problems that come with breeding munchkins. The problems are not 'proven,' they are speculated.
