Alice overdose by hoschie Alice overdose by hoschie
:phew: A lot of work is done and the final step is done: My first digital portrait is coloured :boogie: I used the same colouring technique as in the cat picture I've painted in 2006
[link]

I have learned the technique I've used from one tutorial of the fantastically gifted Henning Ludvigsen :iconhenning: (I love his style maybe because it looks a little like the oil paintings of my idol Boris Vallejo :worship:)

I'm a little (OK, a big...) perfectionist I have to confess. So there is one mayor spot at the picture which makes me a little... :angered: THE EYES, Ophelias beautiful eyes looks a little.. I don't know... maybe incorrect? You see I did not even have a word for that.
Nevertheless I am so thankful for all your great and constructive critique so far. It was so helpful and if there is someone out there who exactly know what there is wrong. I have spent hours in the try to correct the eyes by pushing them around (interesting suggestion isn't) and after some time I did not seen a different even if I put one eye on the cheek

I think I need more practice and not to forget: practice! Uhm did I mentioned that I need more practice?

...Maybe the eyes... maybe the irises and pupils are a bit too small?

There's too much shadow in her left eye and not enough shadow in her right one, which is why it looks a little disconcerting. :\ But other than that, this is fantastic!

This is amazing!! You're very good. As far as the eyes, I think they look great! But maybe the right eye (well technically her left) could be shifted a little more to the right and maybe made a tiny bit smaller.

Awesome!

I love it Oliver!
I agree that the eyes looked a little off in the black&white version, but the colouring helps! I think maybe the left eye (our left) is a bit straight, maybe if you tilted it so the inner corner pointed downwards a little!
Either way, it's just a minor detail. Overall the picture is great! :D

Also obwohl ich eher ein Fan von s/w Portraits bin find ich die Colorierung absolut gelungen. Es wirkt dadurch sogar noch plastischer. Sehr cool gemacht!

Hm, I think the pupils are a little bit too small, and maybe a little too much to the right, but that's moaning on a level i couldn't even dream of. Good work!

Must you be so incredibly talented at everything? :P
Hmmm.... One of the things that I think is setting the eyes off most are the eyelashes. They don't appear to be the same length on each eye.
Also, try looking at the very front corner of each eye. (You know, the part pointing towards the nose?)
Maybe try evening them out so they're alighned with eachother?
I don't know, just some ideas. :)
I hope I helped! :D

Turned out nice :).
About the eyes, I'm gonna send you my suggestion for a fix by e-mail, ok?
Just couldn't resist to try, 'cos I'm always struggling with perspective of the eyes myself, in my own paintings :P. But after looking at one's own painting for some time, you just don't see anything anymore, like you said. It's easier with a fresh pair of eyes (no pun intended , haha);).

This is a beautiful digital portrait and, as usual, I am in awe of your ability.
My suggestion for the eyes would be that the left eye appears to be looking in slightly a different direction to the right. Maybe lowering a little would correct the problem? I could be totally wrong because I am, by no means, an artist. But I don't know if it's helped.

What a gorgeous digipainting! Got any time to teach me a few things or know someone who'd be willing to? :)

That aside....

Try flipping the image on the vertical axis. I did... If anything I'd say the right eye is angled to far up on the right end. Tilting it down a notch should do the trick.

It's the left eye, her right. I think the incongruity is in the perspective. It's facing too far forward, not back at an angle far enough. I think.

I would'nt have noticed if you did'nt say something.

Beautifu work.

You know, the artist themselves are their biggest critique. ;) The rest of us think it looks fine. I get the same way about my art, I see all these little imperfections that none of my friends see.

This is absolutely gorgeous, also considering that you don't work digitally very often(or so it seems) O__O whow!

I think what looks weird about the eyes is that they're not on the same level(the pupils, that is).So she seems to be looking in 2 different directions, in a way.

But all in all this is totally amazing, especially her hair and skin. I have to look at that tutorial :)
